Weird, I would expect them to charge you on your next bill, not ask you to pay up front (but I haven't had Comcast in ages).

Agree with morieris...it might not be time to call them out yet.

You might also want to check it's not on the computer end (as opposed to the router end). Assuming you're using Windows, go in and disable your network interface then re-enable it. You'd be surprised how that can fix things sometimes.

Traceroute makes sense too. Just trace to like 8.8.8.8 (it's a google IP, a lot of people use it) and see if you can get out to the Interwebz at all or if it doesn't even get past your router.

Only other thing I can think of is I had this issue with my wifi router where it suddenly just. Stopped working. I could connect to it and it could connect to the Internet but the latency was so ridiculous it was like not having any connection at all unless I directly connected via ethernet cable. I tried fiddling with various modes and frequencies (in case something was interfering) but never got it to work and basically ended up buying a new wifi access point and connecting it to my ISP-provided device, using the latter as my gateway device and the former just for the wifi.
