That only applies to massive juggernaut fandoms. For people in small or mid-size fandoms there is way less fic to sift through.

I love rec lists, that said, I will agree that for smaller fandom (and in my own case rare pairs or less popular ships) there does tend to be not only less to sift through, but higher quality. This is, of course, my own experience. I'm sure it varies from fandom to fandom.
