Look OP, your reaction is perfectly reasonable. There's something pretty messed up that your co-worker doesn't seem to realize that underage fic is NOT something you spring on a casual acquaintance, and certainly not at work. I don't know if your co-worker is just... kind of clueless or a straight up creep. You're in a better position to say. If it's the former and you value this friendship, be gentle but honest. Tell her exactly what you said re: your expectations when you agreed to beta the fic and then tell her that you couldn't finish it and that you were uncomfortable reading it because it's underage smut. Let her know that A LOT of people will feel this way, not just you. Encourage her to maybe find others in fandom who are into this and won't feel uncomfortable reading it.

If she reacts badly, then nope on out of there and remain civil but say goodbye to the friendship. It's not a friendship worth having. Honestly? I'd try not to mix fandom and work in the future, especially when it comes to being someone's beta. It doesn't always blow up in your face, but the potential is just too risky.

Killua/Gon porn is super common in this fandom. If OP told their friend that they are into the show and the pairing, it's not unreasonable for their friend to think that OP would be okay with the porn.

Is underaged Killua/Gon porn super common? And is it super common not to warn someone that the fic you just gave them contains underage porn?

(Anonymous) 2017-10-28 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Yes? Both are minors, fics that stick to the canon timeline obviously have them sill as minors...

(Anonymous) 2017-10-28 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Well, okay. I'm not familiar with the fandom at all. It seems weird to me that it's so very common that it's just assumed that fic will contain underaged smut, and people don't warn for it. In this day and age, not warning for that is quite unusual.

Welcome to every anime/manga fandom, where people are aware of the ages of the charters (many of them teenagers) and don't warn unless it's some kind of extreme underage or set pre-canon, because it'd redundant.

Uh, no? Most fics are found on the internet, where they're automatically labeled with a rating or "NSFW." You can see that lots of porn exists, but you can avoid reading the fic because you already know the rating. That's called a warning. The OP's coworker didn't tell the OP that her fic was porn, which is the equivalent of not labeling your fic. That's not normal in fandom.

Or the OP could've asked about the rating, content and such. Just like you don't blind click stuff at random, you don't make promises without knowing what you're getting into first.

If someone says they ship those two blokes from supernatural, it’s assumed it’s nsfw and not au, same deal here.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-28 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Yep! Japan doesn't give a rat ass about the characters' ages (try googling 'killua gon doujinshi', everything has them as 12 years old), this is the land of loli, shota and tentacle porn.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-28 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure most people don't ship them because shota!!1!1!! but because the character themselves aren't treated like kids canonicaly, and when that happens fandom don't treat the characters as kids either.

(And I, at least, think that any outcry because people ship two characters when the canon is full of horrorific implications is a nonesense)

(Anonymous) 2017-10-28 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
I mean - and I say this as someone who feels physically ill when I stumble over underage pornfics in the wild - if the character are canonly kids, and you've been explicitly told that they're paired together in the fic, it's kind of on you to verify whether there's aging up going on or not. Canon should be assumed to be default.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-28 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
This. The characters are young teens in canon, so why would you assume that fic would be any different?
