At a certain point, I'm not sure if blanket condemnation is a good response to people who have said the wrong thing or responded the wrong way to these issues. Because it seems to me that blanket condemnation is an evasion of the reality that we as a society have condoned those things and ignored these things and refused to hold people to account and have generally preferred to support people we know and like.

just to be clear here I am totally fine with blanket condemnation of people who actually have harassed and abused people. And maybe I'm being cynical here but it seems to me that there's a pretty good chance that a few Tobacks and Weinsteins get hung out to dry, and then Hollywood mostly moves on and nothing fundamentally changes. And I think that condemning Kate Winslet as though she's unique or extraordinary is a part of that. It is an evasion. It takes something that is diffuse and general and assigns responsibility for it to Winslet.

TW for above comment

And I just want to say that I also don't want to specially blame anyone other than the perpetrators for this state of affairs, and especially not anyone who's been a victim

It's a very complicated problem

Same anon just to be clear

This is very well said, anon. Thank you for your comment, I've been trying to figure out why I feel that putting the blame on certain people who work with predators rubs me the wrong way. I understand the flack they get, I do, but at the same time... direct me to one person who isn't working with a known predator? Men in Hollywood are absolute scum. They are a bunch of dudes with money and power and they abuse it.

There is a line though. I mean, like Gaga and Miley Cyrus with Terry Richardson. Miley Cyrus outright wore a "I was touched by Terr" t-shirt, which made a mockery of his victims. Lady Gaga has been supporting him and defending him for years up until that absolutely disgusting (and, thankfully, canceled) Do What You Want music video.
