It's pretty awesome, especially if you like horror games.

nayrt but I'm a wimp with horror, but I can appreciate a good creepy story without excessive gore or jump scares. Recommend or not?

nayrt

I think you're probably okay.

SPOILER-ISH
I'm pretty bad with jump scares, and to me, 99% of the visual scares were more like "startles": either there's pretty obvious cues something's going to show up beforehand, or they're just less in-your-face/ears. There's also an obvious event that lets you know that the horror tag is in effect, and nothing before then.

I've only seen or read about 2 "real" jump scares where there's minimal warning and there's specific conditions to trigger them*, but they both happen after things are obviously off in-game.

Gore: from what I remember, there's blood but no viscera

SPOILER SPOILERS
*One is if you're streaming gameplay, the other seems to be specifically pursuing Natsuki's route as possible after the obvious horror event. There's also a random chance to get a jump-scare fakeout when viewing optional poems where it winds you up for one that doesn't happen.
