Corpse Bride definitely has more mainstream appeal and less reliance on spectacle than The Nightmare Before Christmas. But it's a toss-up on what the bigger cliche is -- the actual plot, or the Burton-Depp-HBC trifecta, and it makes the movie feel lazy.

Considering how...intents parts of the fandom FOR Loki/Valkyrie have been, I'd say the outrage would be if they don't become canon. (Spoilers: they don't! :))

I'm really uncomfortable with the idea that there's a relationship between disliking someone's work, and being able to tell that they're a morally bad person. Sometimes shitty people make good stuff; sometimes non-shitty people make things that you hate. Taste is not morality. I'm just really uncomfortable with the whole idea. If we could rely on people who made stuff we dislike to be bad people, the world would be a much simpler place.

I know that's not necessarily exactly what OP was saying, and I'm not totally coming after OP here - it's just something that bothers me a lot in general.

Yeah, for some reason the new movies have felt the need to fuck over the old characters. So Luke, who's defining characteristics in the old trilogy were his loyalty and faith in his friends, abandons everyone when things go bad. Han, who spends three movies learning to be part of a family, also pulls a runner so he can have a "Brand New Day"-style reset. And Leia's still badass, but gets to lose everything important to her over and over again. The new movies are good movies, but the way they've treated the old characters is disappointing.
