Yeah, for some reason the new movies have felt the need to fuck over the old characters. So Luke, who's defining characteristics in the old trilogy were his loyalty and faith in his friends, abandons everyone when things go bad. Han, who spends three movies learning to be part of a family, also pulls a runner so he can have a "Brand New Day"-style reset. And Leia's still badass, but gets to lose everything important to her over and over again. The new movies are good movies, but the way they've treated the old characters is disappointing.

Those are some good points. I enjoyed the new movie but that's still some valid insights.

I feel like it made sense for him to become bitter with age and experience. He was an idealist when he was younger, he thought he'd sacrificed and they'd won the war against the dark side. Then he fell into the same trap as his mentor had by training someone who chose the dark side, and the sith are still around and the first order popped up to replace the empire.

I don't necessarily disagree with the "age and experience" thing but since we didn't see that (and can't, by necessity)...it's pretty jarring to see Luke like this. I just hope they have a good explanation because leaving his friends and family behind with no word for YEARS just...doesn't strike me as in-character.

The Sith aren't still around, but I agree with the rest if this.

Did Last Jedi come out already and I missed it

I'm genuinely confused here

How could you not have figured out all the twists, plot points and inner motivations of everyone after two trailer and two behind-the-scenes videos? are you even a star wars fan?

/sarcasm

I think it's a little early to be proclaiming this. We don't really know why he left or how they're going to execute the storyline. That said, it is something I fear, that I won't like what they end up doing with him.

It's not clear he had someone to watch over or knew/felt he did, or that he felt watching over someone (especially from close geographic proximity) was necessarily the best way to go and the best thing for that person. Besides, Obi Wan stayed near Luke but doesn't seem to have done much except watch out for Vader, and he wasn't keeping as close an eye on Leia at all (Bail was, but he's not a Jedi) so I don't know if Luke would want to emulate Obi Wan or what that would actually mean.

Bruh the movie hasn't even come or yet.
You don't know anything about Luke's motives. .

y'all are need to be patient and wait for the movie to be released before jumping headfirst onto the hate train smh.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-29 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Hate is such an overused word.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-30 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
I hate TFA.

Why are you blaming Luke for Abrams and co.'s shitty OOC writing?

(Anonymous) 2017-10-30 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh god, I didn't want to be the one who had to tell you. Luke Skywalker is a fictional character. He's not real. So when licensed creators write him doing shitty things, then that becomes part of his character, which sucks and is disappointing. He's not being forced against his will to do the shitty things by the bad writers, because he can't be. He's just pretend.
