there are a few loonies in every fandom. I love Rick and Morty, so do a bunch of my friends, and we don't do this.

The satbbing isn't somthing I'd heard about, and that certainly puts them somewhere in the top 10, but no, I still say not anywhere near the no 1 spot.

I still enjoy the show and thought season three was fun, but I only enjoy it with my friends. I didn't even realize there were nutso fans until the sauce debacle, but honestly, I've been in fandoms with even worse fans.

same here. I didn't even pick it up until after season 3 had started to air, binged it all and enjoy it quite a bit. Knew nothing of the fandom until the sauce.

but I also don't think the point is to actually like or identify with or hold Rick up as some kind of paragon.

I like him. Granted, I wouldn't be able to stand him if I actually knew him, but I do find him likable as a fictional character. I don't really hold him up as a paragon of anything, though, because obviously.

I can ignore the toxic fandom of a show as long as they aren't into anything real disgusting (Pedophilia/Incest/Other bad things) but I'm going to have to agree with OP about the writing. I'm clinically depressed, and if what I've heard is correct, most of the writing is "Nothing matters, everything is pointless, you could literally die and be replaced by a clone and no one would notice because of how little you matter". I already deal with those thoughts on a daily basis and if I try to watch a show where every episode beats you over the head with that, it would not be pretty

Rick is one of my faves, but I LOVED how he was shat on. It was glorious.
