Apart from the scene where she convincingly beats him in a fight (which ok, was weirdly hot) I never got shipping vibes from those two. I must have missed the fandom for the pairing developing and assume it was caused by the release of the still in this secret?

Even as a Loki fan...god Valkyrie doesn't deserve that! Let's say Loki was sort of interested in her I somehow doubt the feeling would be mutual. Especially because one of the things he does is make her re-live presumably one of her worst memories, that was a low-blow. I feel like she's been set-up as Thor's new love interest. Though even that wasn't at all overt. It was a great film if you are more of the gen persuasion.

I have no idea when or how it happened, but at some point I was under the impression that Loki/Valkyrie would be the OTP of this movie. Maybe it was the fandom, maybe it was cast interviews - I honestly can't remember. Of course, the day after I posted this secret I discovered that she wasn't officially shipped with anyone in the movie!

You know you don't need much basis to ship anyone together. I'm about it, and I will admit it's just because I find Loki attractive, i like her character, ngl there's a bit of projecting on my part (as she's played by WoC), and I like reading about characters with not so healthy/twisted relationship dynamics should they pair up. Even if they had only 2 seconds of shared screen time, that is enough for me, lol. See IceMechanic in the 100. I think Raven and Roan were in a shared scene once in S3 and they didnt even talk. I ran with that ship like there was no tomorrow.

I'm not a hard core shipper (I can get behind the Canon ship too), so all the "drama" to me seems foolish. I still abide by the ship and let ship/read and write what you want avoid what you dislike rule. I never really understood the overreaction by some areas of fandom.

Well, if nothing else at least I know I'm not alone in the corner still fangirling Loki. Feels like fandom really turned on him lately!

You like what you like and that's ok. But really I do get the appeal too not only as a Loki fan but because Valkyrie is awesome with a damaged/sad backstory you can run alongside Loki's. I'd never really considered the ship until watching the film and I got Thor/Valkyrie vibes but as you basically said...live and let ship.

I guess some drama might be from people desperate for any canon Loki ship and they feel teased or annoyed he's lost out to Thor again or whatever. Personally I don't go for romance involving him but see him in ships where it's about scratching an itch. With little canon to go on we have to make do with fic. For a guy whose mythological counterpart (and indeed the comics version too) got way around, MCU Loki is quite lonely really heh.
