111. It's a shame that this even has to be a secret still. Oh, Gundam Wing fandom, why must you be so filled with wank and stupidity after all this time?

123. To warn you, there's really no in-game OT3 hints for anything. There really aren't even OTP hints, unless you count Neumann/Sabrina (and hells yeah, I shipped them). It's more your standard Harvest Moon pick-your-fave-girl-to-marry game. Just with a lot more fighting, better looking characters, and more life consuming farming. Which means I loved it. That being as it may, I suppose you can OT3 anything in the game. Which yes, would be half the fun.

149. You had me until you said not to use the word unless you were gay yourself. I fail to see how someone deliberately using a derogatory word against their own gender preference is a good idea. I know the whole, "give the power back to the powerless" mentality, but, quite frankly, that just doesn't work. There are just some words that should not be used anymore. By anyone.

It's weird, because when I was in the fandom (about nine years ago) people were all about not bashing the female characters on the mailing lists I were on. One of them was GWML, the biggest in the fandom at the time, I believe.

I'm not saying it didn't exist of course - it existed enough to make fandom talk about not doing it after all - but it was only done by a tiny part of the fandom, and deeply critisised by the rest of us. Even back then it was considered bad writing, OOC, and all around fanbrat behaviour.

I was back in the fandom when it was airing on Cartoon Network. The problem was, and I think still is that while the majority of the fandom might frown upon it, the VOCAL majority is a bunch of fangirling loonies with absolutely no consideration to anyone with a differing opinion, or a liking of human beings with vaginae besides their own.

Half the fun to me is being able to enjoy fandom, and it was rather difficult to do so back then, especially on mailing lists. I remember someone actually being banned from a list when they said 1xR was their OTP. Which was crazy, but not a single person said so when it happened, and I left the ML in disgust after that.

All in all, the GWing fandom has never presented itself as inviting to anyone who might not be in it for the shounen-ai fanbase, and that's a shame, because the show in of itself is rather fun to watch.

I started in fandom just before it was dubbed and released in the U.S. and while the fanfic before was often bashing Relena (most people based their fanfic on already existing fanfic without having seen the anime themselves, and those fics often bashed Relena; "For Life Eternal" by Shirin readily comes to mind, or Madamhydra's "Maxwell's Demon"), the fandom really started to turn around with the new influx of fans who had actually seen the canon.

The parts of fandom I was in were the GWML, the starting up of the GW Addiction archive, Spandex and Braids and its later version, and a few minor 1x2 specialised sites and lists (the SDDI started up around that time too). In those places bashing wasn't allowed, not of any character, nor in the discussions (mostly in the mailing lists).

I remember someone actually being banned from a list when they said 1xR was their OTP.

If this was the only thing they said, it sure was crazy. If she did it on a yaoi ML pairing up Heero with a male character, stating how OOC it really was for him to be with someone but Relena, and all around complaining about how the awful, OOC yaoi is taing over everything... well. I have no idea what actually happened, so I won't judge. But that's the general reaction I used to get from non-yaoi fans, and the opinion still of some het fans (jsut look at the anti-yaoi secret a couple of days ago and the reactions to it).

Even though I've always kept to the yaoi parts of the fandom I've rarely seen the kind of hate people keep talking about, and it certainly havent been the general opinion since Shirin's days. It's hard to have an OTP that almost disappears in the enormous amount of fic for a pairing you don't like. I know, it's happened in several fandoms for me too. Bashing the fans for that pairing, or worse, all the fans of a particular type of pairing, won't accomplish anything but making those fans really annoyed, though. People like what they like.
