Omg I read these books in 7th and 8th grade. Holy smokes, thanks for the nostalgia.

I think these books are why dragons make me tingly in certain places, but I was really sad about Heart's Blood. ;.;

Did you know she wrote a fourth book in 2009? I haven't read it, but it looks like it follows up on some of the massive questions book 3 left open.

AYRT

I didn't even know there was a book after Heart's Blood because that was the last in the bunch at the time. I guess I better get my ass on Amaazon and buy myself something for Christmas. :) I guess I should say thanks because never would have found out if not for this secret!

Holy shit I remember reading the first book ages ago! And then forgetting what the series was called and who the author was. ;_;

I was always super interested at the way the author wrote about raising dragons. Seeing authors different takes on dragons is one of my favorite things. Thanks for posting this OP! Time for me to go book hunting!

"I know what you're thinking"

Okay, what am I thinking?

that the xanth series has incredibly skeezy sexual politics that reflect the author's predilections in ways a child who reads them doesn't realize until they're older?

When it comes to fantasy series that people would have read at a young age during the same time as the Yolen series was coming out that were also notorious and remarkable for sexual fetishism, Xanth is easily the all-time champion and the first place most people's minds would go.

Huh, I don’t remember thinking anything of the sort when I read them, and by the time I had I’d probably already read a couple romance novels and also Clan of the Cavebear and a couple sequels.

I don't remember anything like that. I don't think I read every book, though. I read the ones I could find at my library, and I remember loving them even though they were sad in spots. They really inspired me at that age. I loved writing about dragons (but wanted them to be happy stories, haha).

Holy shit is this the series about the kid who works at a dragon breeding facility and steals an egg he secretly hatches so he can raise a fighter, and the dragon with the strongest roars are usually the most powerful ones and his dragon turns out to be a mute and everyone goes bonkers because there's not telling the extent of its power??

And also there was something about names with two Ks in them??

I'm pretty sure I just read the first book and didn't realize there were more because it was so long ago, but WOW WHAT A BLAST FROM THE PAST.
