My point of view is that they're separate storylines. They both exist just as much as they ever did, and I don't think it should matter to you which version of events the people who own Star Wars prefer. So go for it.

That said I also don't really understand the attachment people have to most of the EU canon stuff post-Jedi - it seems pretty dire outside of X-Wing and Thrawn stuff, and even that stuff can be iffy. But you do you.

I don't understand the connection between the issues that a Star Trek series speaks to and deals with and references, and where that series takes place within the fictional chronology of the Star Trek universe.

I mean just in principle, I don't see why a show set before TOS in the fictional chronology couldn't adequately address 21st century issues.

They're not for everyone.

I like them because it's a way to share someone's excitement to things! Same with playthroughs and stuff like that. But I can get where someone wouldn't like them. Maybe voice this to your friends and say you want to just watch things with them.
