But like... what issues? and how are those things inconsistent with the timeline?

I'm sorry if I'm being annoying. I honestly don't understand the relationship here and I'd really like to understand it.

I don't know. I'm not OP and don't have a strong opinion about this. I'm just guessing.

I was thinking of how even though TOS boldly went in the 60s, by modern standards it's a lot less bold. If the reboot (just as an example) wanted to boldly go, it could have made main cast members LGBT, or given larger roles to Uhura and Sulu. Arguably, they remained faithful to the letter but not the spirit of TOS by keeping Uhura and Sulu in very small roles all with the convenient excuse of "well that's how it was in TOS and we're adapting TOS soooo."

Similarly, they could claim that (for example) it was impossible for them to explore species/societies that don't follow the human gender binary in a series set pre-TOS, because that kind of society being known and seen as normal might contradict previous (chronologically later) series' events.
