One of the things about Columbo that not enough people talk about is how obsessed the show is with recordings and recording technology

It's such a recurrent concern, it's really fascinating to me, it seems like a major artifact of his time

You know, I hadn't considered that myself, but now that you mention it, you're right; that DOES pop up a lot, and yet doesn't always seem to be as relevant as I'd expect it to be (like in "Etude in Black"). I wonder if it was just a general fascination with new technologies, or if it had something to do with concern about always being watched.

If that's a theme that interests you, I'm betting you really were fascinated by the episode I'll be talking about in a few days...
