Hmm... are they not using a mattress pad? Those tufted dimples in the mattress are showing through too much for my taste. I'd find that weird to sleep on.

What's a mattress pad?

nayrt

A protective covering that goes over your mattress, but beneath the sheets. Depending on how thick it is, it might or might not hide the "dimples" in a mattress.

Huh. I didn't know that was a regular thing. I have a softy soft mattress topper because my mattress isn't very soft and I have a nerve disorder where even light pressure causes pain, but I didn't know about mattress pads.

They're also a barrier between the sheet and the mattress, to help keep the mattress clean (since it's hard to stuff a mattress into a washing machine). A lot of mattress pads have a plasticized baking so moisture doesn't get through.

I've always had/used a mattress pad - it was just What You Did, ever since I was a kid.

It was What You Did in my family, too. I hate when I'm sleeping at a motel or someone's house and the mattress pad is really thin and I can feel the texture of the mattress. I actually have a memory foam topper on mine and it's perfect.

It looks like super soft bed clothes with regular wrinkles to me.
