A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab - everything that author has written is different and incredibly unique, so I read all of her other books after finishing that one. Defintely recommend!

I realize, thinking of it now, that I haven't actually gotten around to it, but after reading Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson series and James Dashner's Maze Runner series (sans The Killing Theory cuz I was quite happy with not knowing Thomas' reason for doing everything he did before forgetting it all) I've really wanted to read their other series.

And though it probably doesn't really count? Stephen King after reading The Dead Zone. The Dark Half was my first King book but I was confused by it - prob cuz I was all of 10 when I read it, lol. So I tried The Dead Zone and was hooked on King ever since... But then I was already a King fan by that age because of The Shining and Cujo films. ^^;

"The Colour of Magic" by Terry Pratchett. And I have by now read majority of his works.

Small Gods for me, and if my first Pratchett had been The Color of Magic I probably never would’ve read his other books.

That was the first of his that I read, too, although I never did get around to reading very many of his books, as I had no transportation to the library at the time and then the feeling passed. His catalog was still fairly small at the time I read that, so I could have easily read everything.

Small Gods by Terry Pratchett. I think I’d read Wyrd Sisters first, but Small Gods was what made me read all the Discworld books and everything else of his I got my hands on.

The Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn. I went out and looked for his non-Star Wars stuff. He's a great author.

Fudoki by Kij Johnson. Most beautifully descriptive fantasy story, unusual and bittersweet. Her other books are similar, read them all... but she hasn't written very many. :(
