Well if they buy out everything, we won't be able to.

I like how most reactions to this is "OMG THE XMEN WILL FINALLY BE IN THE MCU." and not "What happened to industry wide competition?"

There’s always indies, foreign films, and straight up pirating.

Yeah, we've got people like A24 out there and GKIDS and some smaller midbudget distributors like Entertainment or whoever distributes all those Blake Lively + The Shark movies.

This bothers me so much. Hooray for monopoly because yay X-Men?

I heard it was just them buying up a section, to get back properties like X-men and the Star Wars original trilogy movie rights. Right now Fox holds the right to publish the original trilogy, even though Disney got the rest.

I don't want them to get XMEN or Deadpool. They wouldnt have made things like Logan and Deadpool, and I appreciate that they're different.

Fantastic Four on the other hand.

I don't want Disney/Marvel to get the rights back. I think the best thing for Marvel movies has been having the rights divided between several production companies. I'm sure that Fox are not thrilled at being the "other Marvel film company," but when they do a mutant movie, it is at least its own thing and different, and has to be good enough to stand on its own. They don't succeed all the time, but I don't want X-Men and Fantastic Four to be shoehorned into a more formulaic MCU mold.

I kind of agree wrt X-Men but I think MCU might be able to do a decent Fantastic Four movie. And I'd really like to see someone make one at some point - I mean it's pretty fucking weird how apparently no one is able to make a good FF movie.

And the Marvel movies seem to be showing at least some willingness to branch out stylistically, which is nice.
