But you have no problem with comparing the white guys?

Sure, in almost all of the game art released during the development of Dream Daddy, Soldier 76 was at least a decade older and didn't even have a face. Also, Joseph is a manipulative fink (arguably referencing Angels in America. Soldier 76's introductory video was heroic.

....you do understand people are not saying they are 100% copies? I am just going to focus on these two.

The comparison between S76 and Joseph are 100% looks if you just go by himself.
Reyes and Robert are based on looks and gross generalizations of their personalities. Meaning, in both fandoms they are characterized as edgelords/emos.

Together, they are both couples who have a history and a bad falling apart.

Like, do you get super pissed off when people compare characters like Hawkeye and Green Arrow?

OMG! Jack Sparrow and the Mad Hatter are THE SAME CHARACTER!

OMG! Luke Skywalker and Dracula are THE SAME CHARACTER!

Given the long history of Marvel and DC explicitly copying each other, probably not. But if you're going to argue that Blizzard let themselves be ripped off after aggressively pursuing copyright infringement, you need something a bit stronger than vague and superficial fan meta.

No one is saying they are the exact same character. They are saying it looks like they were being inspired by them. Considering who the creators are, it lends credence to that.

Have you just started getting into fandom? Have you never seen people do these kinds of comparisons before?

[personal profile] cbrachyrhynchos 2017-11-07 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Characters with only the shallowest similarities are inspired by each other?

(Anonymous) 2017-11-07 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
According to fandom? Possibly. Or maybe, just maybe people are having fun with fandom.

[personal profile] cbrachyrhynchos 2017-11-07 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
It's a case of game fandom indulging in tinhatting at this point.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-07 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
It is a joke! You are the only person I have ever seen who has taken is as anything more than a fandom joke.

[personal profile] cbrachyrhynchos 2017-11-07 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
If it's a joke, then it shouldn't be a big deal to admit that you're stretching.

I think the DD guys are are Disney princesses myself. But then again, I would.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-07 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
I have literally put in actual words that people are stretching the comparisons. Let me c/p so you can reread.

"The comparison between S76 and Joseph are 100% looks if you just go by himself.
Reyes and Robert are based on looks and gross generalizations of their personalities. Meaning, in both fandoms they are characterized as edgelords/emos.

And if you want to think of them as being inspired by Disney Princesses? AWESOME! I bet there are some people on Tumblr who would agree and love the idea.

[personal profile] cbrachyrhynchos 2017-11-07 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
Question: Are the DD characters derivative or not of OW characters who didn't even have a visible face in most early release media?

(Anonymous) 2017-11-07 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Someone will have to ask the creators! Until then, I am going to have fun and say they totally are.

I hope you have fun with your Disney Princess idea. Based on the most common lineup, who are you thinking for who?

Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mulan, Aurora (Sleeping Beauty), don't know about the rest.
