Personally, I sympathize with writers who don't feel secure in their work... I don't know many writers who DON'T feel a certain degree of insecurity about their own writing! But I think that if you do something you later regret because you were insecure... well, that's still your responsibility. You can blame a beta for being a shitty beta, but I don't think it's entirely accurate to say they forced you to rewrite your fic.
