Sometimes when you disagree with a beta, it's hard to know if it's because they're "wrong" or because your ego is just getting in the way.

This so much. When I was younger I was pretty egotistical about my writing and tended to be one of those "You just don't get it" types. That was an immature stance, and I'm aware of that now, but that makes trying to work with a beta even more of a mindfuck, because now, if I feel like their advice is amiss, I have zero idea whether that's because it actually is amiss, or whether it's just my ego talking.
