153: I don't understand authors who go "I wish I wasn't the kind of author whose readers wrote fanfic about his/her stuff!" ...so you wish your readers didn't keep thinking about your world and your characters after they finished the book? \(O_o)/

For some authors, writing and creating characters is very personal. When they see other people using their characters, it feels like theft. You are using something that doesn't belong to you in the slightest. It's not that they don't want you to keep thinking about it. Writing essays and speculation is one thing. Writing up derivative works is another.


/Anne Rice is batshiat. If you don't want people to write Fan-Fiction, there are classy ways of going about it. I.E. George R.R. Martin. If you don't want it, don't allow it, but be classy about it.

I agree completely with what you said. I'm writing my own original works, and the world and characters are very personal and dear to me. I do not think I will allow derivative works. However, speculation and essays are welcome. Hopefully, I will be more classy about it than Anne Rice. :)
