I would also argue that someone who's so invested in Axl Rose's masculinity that they drunkenly vomit upon hearing that fans have fantasized about him getting it up the ass from Slash need lives more than do the fans who fantasize about him getting it up the ass, but that would be nitpicking.

It's nothing to do with his masculinity; it's everything to do with the fact that he is not gay. Trufax.

Most of the characters or people that fans write slashfic about are not gay. It has very little to do with the actual sexuality of the people being written about and more with the attraction fans have to them.

That's seriously what I'm not understanding with the ruffle over this. It's not that people think they're actually fucking in real life, and I see it as the people are more like characters instead of fans trying to write it like it's truth.

I have a theory that it's a band-specific thing. Have you ever read Chuck Klosterman's Fargo Rock City? He has a great section on Guns 'n' Roses; he argues that the difference between them and most of the hair metal bands of the day was that most of the other bands were invested in cultivating larger-than-life public personae that were separate from their actual selves, and that most of the fans sort of knew that the onstage antics and bragging in interviews were exaggerations of a sort, but that part of the appeal of Guns 'n' Roses was that they seemed like they took the wild, self-destructive rock star lifestyle seriously, like there was no difference between their personae and their actual selves. Most real-person slashers are pretty aware that their celebrities have false personae and that they're just creating another one, but with fans that are invested in the realness of their favorite celebrity's persona, there isn't that awareness.

Or maybe I'm overthinking this, and these people objecting are just total knobs.

The Axl/Kurt pleases me. Also, LOL at the anon that was too scared to log in and say what they said. Just because people write slash doesn't mean that they're sick fucks and need a life. Do you honestly think rockstars have enough free time to scour the internet and find fanfiction about themselves? And if they did, would they really care all that much?

I wish I still had some of the fanfic--I ended up deleting a lot of old fics from my computer so my mom wouldn't find them. They were probably terrible, though. I think I had Axl and Kurt having bizarre hate/withdrawal sex in rehab. LOL3dgy.

Maybe the reason Chinese Democracy isn't out yet is because Axl is just glued to the computer screen, reading all the hothot slashfic he found about himself, and that's really why the anonymouse is upset...
