Your dad sounds like a jerk, tbh. He's also wrong about the pumpkins.

Yeah, he is wrong. The small pumpkins taste better or something, so we are using them for pumpkin pie. The big ones were just for carving on Halloween.

Yeah, the small ones are grown for eating specifically. The large ones have less flesh and more seeds because they're grown for jack o' lanterns. You can eat them, but they're not as good.

I did carve one of the small ones, but I puree'd it after Halloween. Made pumpkin-cheesecake pie and pumpkin bread. And I've still got a bunch of pumpkin left over.

NAYRT—The big flat decorative ones that aren’t usually carved are great eating too, but they’re at least like 4x the size of the little pie pumpkins; so if you cut one up to eat you’d better really love pumpkin. I’ve seen stores sell wedges of the big flat pumpkins next to whole ones before for people who aren’t Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater. But jack o’ lantern pumpkins are watery and stringy and taste like crap, and also your dad is an ass. If he’s so convinced they’re the same kind, he can eat stringy tasteless pumpkin and you and your mom can have pie.

You mean the Cinderella pumpkins? Rouge viv d'Etampes? Yeah, they're good.

Yeah, those, but most all of the flattish ones are tasty. Marina di Chioggia, Galeux d'Eysines, Jarrahdale, whatever the flat white ones are...
