The more bad stuff I hear about Gabaldon, the more I love that supposedly embarrassing story about someone accidentally insulting her because she asked a stranger who didn't recognize her how she was liking the Outlander book she was reading and she...answered honestly.

I did find it and it's either better or worse than I remember because she sort of gets the "Well, I'm a published author" last word but also was the first to bring it up, so. The smugness.
