Barely present?

I agree with this. She was awesome, and she was everything that Loki could have been.

Are you sure you didn't make the secret?
philstar22: (Default)

[personal profile] philstar22 2017-11-14 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Nope. I only make secrets on Fridays and Saturdays, and I had no internet this weekend. I could have made it, though, because I completely agree with it.

Why does she have a spider coming out of her head?

The character sounds cool, but that head-thing is distracting!

Pure uncut Jack Kirby, babes.

I just kept waiting for Loki to do something all movie. Damnit after everything in Doctor Strange I kept expecting more cool magic stuff from him, not basically making him Snarky Fighter Who Isn't As Good As Hulk Or Valkyrie Or Thor But Better Than Most.

Marvel is scared of magic

that's the conclusion I draw here

Agree. I mean, he's the god of lies and almost every lie he told and scheme he schemed fell flat/ was dismantled in mere minutes or seconds. The way he was manhandled all throughout the movie was kind of pathetic.

I just realized, they're probably doing the same thing Star Wars Rebels did with Kallus. Make him super-ineffective and a total joke as a 'villain' so they can transfer him over to a hero. Which I hate because being a hero is not a consolation prize for being too shitty to make it as a villain?

That is probably what's going to happen - "Everyone teaming up against Thanos" seems to be the general premise for Infinity Wars, after all. I mean, Loki always had some sort of ambiguity to him, so they wouldn't have needed to go the "he sucks as a villain, let's make him a hero" route to make him switch sides on occasion.
He wasn't even a complete failure in The Avengers and the first Thor movie. But as soon as it gets to the point where even unnamed new characters have better skills than one of the main characters, that's when it gets kind of pathetic.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-14 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Like I actually liked the bit where it looked like he was a good king for Asgard, aside from being a little bitch to Thor and making sure Heimdall couldn't out him. I like the idea that he's just... essentially addicted to worship and perfectly willing to do whatever it takes to get it, including being a good ruler and keeping the people happy and loving him. I like that kind of weird grey morality and I would be perfectly willing to believe in him happily teaming up with the Avengers for selfish reasons.

I saw a funny post that was basically: "I love how, if you get down to it, Loki's rule in Thor:Ragnarok is basically based in political non-aggression/non-interference and support of the arts."
Which is ... at least not entirely untrue.

And yes, I agree. Loki is, at the very base, a huge opportunist. If he thinks he'll get an advantage out of it, he'll at the very least consider doing it.

I sort of have to think that it was kind of on purpose, since they went overboard in showing how awful Hela's rule was. It could very easily have made it so Thor was the only option by having Loki be just as awful.

But the big confrontation seemed to be "I'm tired of going out and doing all the work in the 9 realms while you get to sit around and do the fun part of ruling" instead of "As long as our people did not suffer I was willing to let you play your games, but you have been awful and cruel"

But yeaaah, the rest of the movie was just him getting his ass handed to him by people better at lies/manipulation/fighting.

I'm still not sure if it was intentional or actually just another bit of "he's kind of incompetent" but I like your interpretation so I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt.

I'm looking forward to seeing this movie, hopefully in the next couple of weeks. Just wanted to say I really love this character design. That headdress! Damn.

It's not Thor without the Jack Kirby badass helmets.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-14 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Even with the headgear, most of the MCU stuff isn't very Jack Kirby at all, IMO

(Anonymous) 2017-11-14 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmm, as much as I love Loki, I gotta agree with you, OP. They underutilize Loki's magic constantly. Hela was a badass who threw magic around like it was as easy as breathing.

She was awe inspiring. That scene on the throne when she made Skurge her Executioner? She just has so much presence.

Skurge was terrific, too. Karl Urban did a great job riding the edge of collaborator w/o a choice.

The casting of the whole film was kind of brilliant.

I really loved her in the movie, she was powerful, not just in ability but in personality, and to be completely shallow sexy af too.
