Hmmmm. I think early fanon MCU!Thor was really different from canon MCU!Thor. But he has improved since.

Canon MCU!Clint Barton is almost nothing like fanon MCU!Clint Barton. Mostly because fanon MCU!Barton was created when Clint had almost no character development so they combined a lot of different comic!canons.

Agree about Clint Barton. But still... Snape. Always Snape.

A tie between the Malfoys, Ginny and Harry Potter, based on the fics I've read when I read HP fanfic.

Cumberbunny's Sherlock. I read fic for that show before I ever watched it, and when I finally did it was so confusing.

Are you thinking of Dark Fuck Prince style Sherlock, or vulnerable Sherlock? Both are pretty strong deviations from canon, I'd say.

I like vulnerable Sherlock, myself, but I won't argue with the fact that he can get pretty far away from canon Sherlock.

Vulnerable woobie Sherlock. Just... I see the attraction, but the way he's characterized in fanfics versus on screen is such a stretch, especially in season 1, that they might as well be two different people.

Yeah, that's true. Although as someone who was in the fandom back in S1, there really weren't very many woobie Sherlock fics back then. There were still a lot of fics that played up his vulnerability a bit and depicted him as caring a lot more than he let on, but rarely to a degree where he felt like a woobie, IMO. The woobie Sherlock trend just kind of picked up momentum and popularity, and thus became more and more exaggerated over time. It wasn't until the release of S3 that it became pretty much full blown and ubiquitous.

For all derivative works, Irene Adler. Just... Irene Adler.

For fandom, Canon TOS Captain James T. Kirk is a awkward feminist pacifist who spends way more time giving obnoxious speeches about morality than fighting or fucking.
Fanon Kirk - Hur dur gonna punch and get mah dick wet. GREEN LADIES! WHOOOOO!
