Advice- cats

So I'm going to have a cat for the next two days. Long story short, I took her home from the place I was over the weekend because she wants to be a cuddly indoor lap cat, and they only want outdoor cats. They would yell at her and wanted to get rid of her, so I couldn't leave her there.

Since I can't have a cat, she'll go to the local Humane Society. They were full today, but said to try again Wednesday. So she'll be here until then.

I know the basics of caring for a cat. But how do you make a cat comfortable in a new environment that she's only going to be in for a few days?

Also, is there any way to make her more okay with car rides in the carrier? She was fine coming home from the retreat even though that was a 2 hour ride because she was in my lap in the back seat (was driven by friends). But my mother won't let her out in the car. Today to and from the shelter she was terrified and had to be given a bath when we got home because she'd made a complete mess of herself.

Cats aren't big fans of change. I suspect you'll both just have to suffer through. Sorry. Kittens can be taught to like car rides, but once they're adults they're pretty much set, IMO. And new places don't go over well for any cat immediately...

But I'm really glad you're helping the cat. What jerks decide they want "outside cats?" Outside cats should only be barn / farm cats who WANT to be barn / farm cats. If people don't want to take care of pet cats properly they shouldn't have any. >:(

Give her a small place that's hers and hers alone, like a cat carrier, that she can come and go from as she pleases. Since she's bonded with you, put a shirt or something you've recently worn inside-- soothing scent, you know? And keep the carrier in a bedroom or something with a door so that she has privacy/feels secure.

Oh fuck those assholes! Ugh. So many people are looking for a cuddly indoor lapcat, what the hell do they think yelling at her is going to do?

This might not be something that applies to you - but I once adopted a two year old cat. He was extremely shy. The second we got him home he hid, and ended up getting into the basement ceiling somehow. He wouldn't come near anyone. So what I ended up doing was sleeping in the basement, on a mattress on the floor, for a week. I had a shirt of mine near his food and water so he could get used to my scent. And we bonded. But... where you only have the cat for a couple of days, I don't know if that or anything like that will work :/

Sad Thread

I'm feeling really sad today. My SAD and depression and anxiety is really getting to me, and insurance is being shitty, so I can't see my usual doctor to get medication right now. I just keep getting these waves of sadness and needed somewhere to vent and get it off my chest.

Anyone else feeling sad today is welcome to join in/vent here too. <3

Also, everyone is welcome to post something to cheer me and others up. I'd really appreciate it. <3

I'm sad because I love this kitty already. I was sobbing bringing her to the shelter this morning, and I'll be sobbing again on Wednesday. She's the sweetest cat imaginable, and i want to keep her so bad. But my mother keeps coming up with new excuses for why I can't have a cat. Before it was because of are carpets. Now it is because she's afraid of tripping over the cat. Argh. I'm still hoping precious Joanna will show her how perfect and sweet she is and my mother will change her mind. Because this cat belongs with me. She follows me and sits on my lap as soon as I sit down.

Hnn a little more stressed than sad , because my health insurance bill came in again and that always puts me in lots of stress and anxiety, when my self loathing kicks in and I wonder ... ugh just I never asked to exist.

But anyway...I just hope that I'll have enough spare money to get a present for a few friends and my family. I mean I kinda know I'll make it through somehow I always have before.. but. augh the stress. Such a pain in the ass.

Am I the only one who finds it annoying when someone tells a story, and says "so I told them (insert rebuttal or WHAM line here)" and then the story just ends?

For instance, a friend will tell you how she was out and someone commented that she was taking too long to order her food. So she turned to them and said "I have short term memory loss." And then the story will just end there. I always want to know what the other person said!

... okay, that wasn't the best example, but does that make any sense? Does it drive anyone else nuts?

sorry if this is a dumb question but is it possible to use trigger as a term outside of like trauma and stuff?

to explain, i have noticed there are certain social situations that really for lack of a better word trigger me. i usually don't even know what's happening except that i suddenly feel the urge to cry and am extremely upset and hurt for no apparent reason until i sit down a bit later and puzzle out that x situation probably relates to my big fears etc.
i have severe depression, but it's not like i completely panic in those situations or relive something, so i don't want to confuse people by saying I'm triggered.

The "Z" key on my laptop flat-out stopped working a while back. I can't figure out how to fix it, and having to c&p it every time I need the letter is getting really old. I haven't had a whole lot of luck googling the issue, either. Has anyone else had a problem like this before, and if so, how did you deal with it? I'm worried that it's going to need to be professionally repaired, which I really can't afford right now.
