Chalkboards. Chalkboards are the worst.

My back being touched. For some reason, It makes me flinch every time someone touches my back.

Being told to smile. Sorry, my mouth naturally turns down and I don't feel like making the effort. I'll smile when I need to. And I'm friendly and smile at strangers. But my dad is always telling me to smile, and it drives me up a wall.

Mushy textures in food. Overcooked vegetables are the worst.

I don't like being told to smile either. I have a right to be in a bad mood sometimes, why are men (it's always men) so threatened by that?

Interestingly enough, I only ever get the "smile" comments from other women, particularly older ones.

I feel like with women, it's possibly a generational thing? Maybe growing up in the 50s and 60s still has this "we women must always be pleasant" thing ingrained in some heads.

Yeah, it's pretty much always men in my experience as well.

I'm inclined to agree with the anon who said they felt it was a generational thing. They've had the "women have a duty to look/be pleasant and happy even when they're not" thing drummed into their heads from an early age. Also, women are more socialized to notice other peoples' emotional states and interfere, i.e. "fix" it. So it's probably something to do with how they feel you're sad and they want to help you and they believe that telling you to rearrange your facial muscles and pretend like you're happy is helpful.

Either way, fuck 'em. Do what you want with your face.

Agreed on chalkboards. And chalk, it's so dry and dusty.

I'd tell the people telling you to smile that if they want people to smile, they should do something to make people happy.

The last time someone told me to smile, I’d just come from visiting my mom in hospice board and care and I almost slam-dunked a 50-something white dude into a trash-can.

When you come out of building and the sun is at the perfect angle to blind you.

When you feel something on the back of your neck and you freak out trying to brush it away, thinking it's a bug, and it turns out it's just a hair. Alternatively, when you reach up to brush away what you think is a stray hair and it turns out to be a bug.

When something in your house makes a weird noise but you can't immediately identify what it is (something un-crumpling itself in the trash, something falling over in the pantry, something in the path of a vent being blown along a counter or table, etc.).

And even though I set it, I cannot stand my oven timer beeping, the pitch just aggravates the hell out of me.

I really love pumpkin spice all the things, but I'm mildly allergic to cinnamon oil. So if it uses real cinnamon I'm fine, if it uses candy flavoring type cinnamon oil I'm not-100%-fine. So I am tempted by everything, but I don't know what will hurt me.

It's not a huge risk, but I was so disappointed when pumpkin pie yogurt was not safe.

I can't stand having stuff touch the front of my neck, starting just under my chin and stopping a few inches above the boob-line. I have no problem with stuff touching the back of my neck, or even the sides, but I get really flaily and panicky when anything even gently brushes against the front. I can't handle wearing necklaces, turtlenecks or even crew-neck t-shirts. I can sometimes put up with scarves, but only if they stay perfectly arranged so that they never touch the freak-out zone. The weird thing is that I can handle firm pressure there just fine. I'd be less freaked out if someone tried to strangle me than if they tried to tickle my neck. 'Course, I guess it helps that I figure that anyone trying to strangle me probably has a good reason and I probably deserve it.

Also, as I mentioned a few threads up, I really fucking hate water moccasins.

I hate being any bother whatsoever when I'm at work. Which is ridiculous, because I've only been there a week - but any time I have to ask someone something, or if I mess up, I'm just hoping they don't think I'm a total idiot/burden/a regrettable hire.

PMS. It's the one time of month I have feelings, and it's so annoying. No, I don't f want to have a verge-tears emo moment over something dumb, thank you.

Oh yeah. My cyclical crying jags suck, make me almost miss when I used to get migraines a couple times a month instead.
