Need Urgent Help!

(Anonymous) 2017-11-15 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
How the hell do you keep cocoa powder from clumping up? I am trying to make hot chocolate with microwaved milk, a tablespoon of cocoa powder, and some sugar. I've tried adding the hot milk TO the cocoa powder. I've tried adding the cocoa powder to the hot milk. I've tried mixing up a bit of cocoa powder with a bit of milk to then add hot milk to.

I still get clumps of cocoa powder in the dregs of the hot chocolate.

Are you, like, whisking it in, or stirring it, or what?

Stirring it in with a fork.

I'll have to see if it will work with milk first. Don't want to taint my delicious milk with gross water. If not, I'll try water.

WHISK. You've got to WHISK it.

But usually you add it to a hot liquid and then whisk rapidly and it should break up all the clumps. But I have never microwaved cocoa so I don't know if it is not working because of that.

Can I whisk with a fork? I don't want to dirty my whole kitchen up for one cup of cocoa.

You can whisk with a fork to some degree if you get the right angle. Actual whisks have a little more... reach? I guess is the best way for me to describe it.

Next time you're in a place that sells a lot of kitchenware, pick up a mini-whisk. They're like $2. Then you don't have to use any other utensils or containers :)

Yesss! I have this uber tiny whisk, I love it. Great when I'm doing egg washes and small things too.

I have an electronic milk frother and just used that while pouring in cocoa

Mix the cocoa with the sugar first until it's even, then add them to the hot milk together. the sugar separates the cocoa enough to keep it from clumping.

Mix a little bit of water or milk with cocoa (and sugar I guess). Nuke it for 30 seconds or so, take it out, stir it. If there’s still lumps, add a bit more liquid, stir, and nuke for longer then stir again. Stir while you add the rest of the milk, nuke until it’s hot, stir again.

I just dump it into the hot milk and stir really well. There will still be some small clumps but whatever. Life is short.

There are a few ways.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-15 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
You can sift it - kind of a pain, but it will break up clumps.
You can mix it well with white sugar before adding any liquid.
You can whisk it into the milk.
You can put it all in a food processor and let that whip it.
