I'm the same. I think it's generational, and I'm definitely from the generation that Did Not Talk About Fandom. It still weirds me out whenever media creators bring it up, probably because not long ago their comments would always be in the vein of "Those people are freaks!" I have a couple close friends who know about my fandom participation, but I'd be horrified if any one else found out.
