So like...what do you even talk to people about if not shows and movies and potential shared interests like that????

You can talk about a show without talking about the fandom aspect.

"Did you see last night's episode? What did you think of it?"

Where does fandom enter anywhere into that conversation?

Okay but right in the secret OP says, "I even feign indifference or ignorance to shows, movies, and celebrities that I secretly obsess over in private."

That means they're (maybe?) going, "Oh, I don't watch that, sorry." if someone even brings up a show or movie they love.

I can fully understand not going full on crazy-fan mode when talking about shared interests, but... this seems like a complete 180 in the other direction.

SA

Yeah, that's pretty extreme. But it's entirely possible to be friends with someone and not have shared interests in TV shows or whatever. There's life outside of entertainment.

They said they don't even talk about the shows they like.

"Where does fandom enter anywhere into that conversation?"

Where does it NOT?

I mean, seriously. If you're scheduling your life around broadcasts or binge-watching old episodes of something, you are a fan.
