I hate that even while "fandom" becomes more socially accepted, it's still way more socially acceptable for "I'm a big fan geek" to mean "I play video games for fifteen hours a week and I own some Game of Thrones merchandise," not so cool for it to mean "I spent a couple hours out of this week hashing out a fanfic plot with someone." Oh boy am I bitter, but nah, I'm not part of the pushback, I never mention fanfic IRL.

I have plenty of reasons I tell people that I don't share my writing with them. The reason I never mention is that a lot of it is fanfiction...

Haha, same. I guess to a lot of people I'm probably that person who talks about being a writer but never seems to actually write anything and okay, there may be SOME truth to that, but for the most part it's because I really don't need them to know the type of stuff I'm writing.
