Re: Thor:Ragnarok

As a stand alone movie it was entertaining to watch. As an addition to the Thor MCU canon it was utter shit.

How was Loki possibly able to take over the Earth in Avengers if Earth's sorcerers should have been able to easily kick his ass? All his lies and schemes fell flat. I think they're doing the thing where they make him suck really hard as a villain so they can turn him into a hero, and I hate that particular 'redemption arc.'

Warriors Three getting killed with no fanfare? Awful.

Women existing only as shallow plot devices or eyecandy? Awful. Not even a single mention of Sif? When Dead!Odin was giving advice he couldn't have had Freya at his side and maybe giving advice too?

I was very insulted by the 'Mjolnir wasn't really magic, it was a device to help you channel your innate magic. The real magic was inside you all along!' Since that pretty much fucks over all the comic-related 'anyone can be Thor if they're worthy' including the current Jane Foster as Thor. So I kind of can't help but feel it was a 'don't worry guys, no vagina will ever be Thor, lol! There's one and only and he's a dude.'

A lot of the movie I felt like someone at Marvel loves writing Tony Stark. That's why Tony is Tony, and Peter Quill is Tony, and Doctor Strange is Tony, and now Thor is Tony. I mean I love getting to see Thor show off how clever he is, but he's not... flashy smug genius. He's quietly brilliant. So a lot of his snarky smug Tony-scenes bugged me.

I hated Thor's haircut and I was willing to have Loki in blue if it meant we got to see Jotun!Loki again, but NOPE.

CGI has come a long way, but long well lit stationary scenes of Hulk just standing around still looked very pasted-in and CGI.

The only good thing was it did kind of remind me of the headcanons I like for Thor/Loki and I have the urge to go back and read good fic.
