Sorry, Billy is too terrible of a person to be hot

(Anonymous) 2017-11-18 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that's just not true. Of all the bad hot guys, he is not even in the top 100 of badness levels.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-18 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
The Badness-Hotness Threshold is an absolute limit. It doesn't depend on the rankings of any other bad-hot guys. You're either over the limit or under it.

Look, if people can find Hannibal Lector hot despite being a murderous cannibal, this one is fine. The actor who plays Hannibal Lector looks like a Picasso painting.

Well, look, I mean, what's eating a few people between friends

Ugh. You're certainly not the first person to express the idea, OP, but that scene plays 100% aggression to me, not flirting. Yeah, there was a sexual component, but Billy's objective was intimidation/to assert his dominance over the top dog. When you combine that scene with the one where he aggressively flirts with Karen to get information, it doesn't look like Billy views sex as anything other than a weapon. Honestly, added to his anger and violence issues, I was half-expecting to find out that he'd been sexually abused and that was why they'd moved from Cali to Podunk, Indiana.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-18 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Oh shit. I hope some other people think this so fics from from it. Billy is my new favorite trash character.

Absolutely.

Sorry he was too much of a dick for me to like and I sure as hell can't ship him with anyone.

I didn't get gay-vibes from him at all though, just douchey alpha-male vibes.

I don't ship Billy/Steve like I want them to get together, but I totally think he has a big boner for Harrington.

It's the hair. All the boys and girls want that hair.

He was a terrible person (though i had some sympathy for him after the scene with his dad), and his look is *not* hot, to me (the mustache *must* go, and the hair looks perpetually greasy), but I think it *was* flirting, in a sick kind of 'if he seems interested, i'll beat him down' way.

After all, his dad made that 'faggot' comment, and i think Billy is 100 percent repressed bisexual/gay, because his dad wouldn't tolerate a kid that wasn't 100 percent straight.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-18 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
I wondered if that may have been the reason they left California. Max mentioned it was Billy's fault they had to leave. So if his father caught him or even suspected, he'd definitely move them out of liberal as hell California. And it seems like Billy would overcompensate for something like that by acting super masculine.

[personal profile] tabaqui 2017-11-18 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. His dad really seemed like the time to think that beating the shit out of your kid for being (or seeming to be) not-straight was the 'thing to do', and Billy was obviously scared to death of him, so....

Blech. Just gross all 'round, but that's definitely my headcanon for him.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-18 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
That seems to be the common headcanon in a lot of the fanfic. And I am loving the hell out of it. I love some redemption fic.

I've been reading mostly found-family fic and ot3 fic, i'll have to see what Billy redemption fic there is out there. Got any good links?

The gay sociopath is an 80s cliche that I'd be fine with them skipping, TBH.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-18 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
Can you give me some examples? I am interested in this.
tabaqui: (Default)

[personal profile] tabaqui 2017-11-18 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think he's a sociopath, I think he's an abused person lashing out. Gay or not gay is up to the viewer, since he's played heterosexual on the screen.
*shrug* Up to you, I suppose.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-18 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
He tried to run over a bunch of middle-schoolers for shits and giggles. That's way past "lashing out," and the fact that he's a victim as well as an abuser doesn't give him a pass for the latter. Headcanon all the woobie!Billy you want, but at the end of the day what's portrayed on the screen is a sexually aggressive and violent young man who enjoys hurting children.
tabaqui: (Default)

[personal profile] tabaqui 2017-11-18 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
Yes yes.
*pat pat*

I'm not making him a woobie - i'm saying he's an abused person who is, yes, lashing out and who the fuck knows what damage has been done to him over the years. I never said he got a pass, so please tuck your self-righteousness away, it's boring.

I know the actors who play the older teenagers on this show are all in their twenties, but the guy who plays Billy can't pass as a teenager at all and it makes this scene so creepy in a "Steve gets molested by the coach" way.
