Not everything that's realistic is likeable. Not everyone has the same standards as you for deciding not to like a character. They're simply choosing to draw the line at a different spot. I'll be honest...you say "understandable" but then in the same comment you seem to be having problems understanding that other people have different tastes and opinions.

Also keep in mind that for people who grew up in abusive situations, a "but they're only screaming at you because they loooooove you!" does not feel like a good justification and they may not warm to a character who does that.

This exactly, anon. That scene was pretty much a typical day in my house, it made me feel sick.

Sorry, I meant it was understandable that not everyone is going to like every character, but that to me, using that as a reason for not liking someone seemed strange, I wasn't very clear.

However, you're right, I was not thinking of this from a point of view like that, where even though it's not a bad thing, that it could be a hard line for someone to not be able to get over.

I don't know, because it's not rocket science. To you, screaming at a kid isn't enough of a reason to dislike someone because you feel there are circumstances and reasons that justify those actions. To me, it's weird that you're having such a hard time grasping that other people don't have the exact same standards as you do for liking or disliking someone. That doesn't really seem like a realistic scenario.

Yeah, sorry for not putting myself in EVERYONE'S head while trying to understand something. Being omniscient is something I'm still working on.

LOL, yes, that seems to be a common theme on the Internet these days, where people get up in arms because you didn't word this comment correctly for the nuance a, b, and/or c. Used to be you'd be okay if you tagged your comment with an IMO, but now you pretty much have to have a lawyer to vet your comments first as people will always zoom straight for the loophole, word choices, inferences, and so on.

Oops, and NAYRT, obviously. (My lawyer didn't vet my comment, and I missed that disclaimer. Sorry.)
;)

You don't need to be omniscient to realize that other people may think differently than you. Most people understand that as a given.
