I've not gotten any callbacks for jobs I applied for. I am beginning to think I am unemployable and it is really depressing.

The sense that I get, from talking to people and from my own experience, is that jobhunting is a much longer and more frustrating process than it has any right to be. But it doesn't mean that you're unemployable, even if it absolutely feels that way sometimes. A lot of it is just an absolute crapshoot, just almost random chance.

And the best advice I can give is, one, your ability to find a job in this late capitalist hellscape is not a reflection of your worth as a person. Two, IME, the best thing you can do (besides taking advantage of connections and networks) is to widen the funnel - increase the number and the range of jobs you apply for. Because it is a crapshoot and you have to improve your odds.

Anyway I know how awful and mind-destroying a process jobhunting is and I just wanted to say you know hang in there.

Thanks, I've been applying to everything. The couple interviews I've had ended up going nowhere. One I am sure was because I was overqualified.

I've applied for another round of jobs this weekend (some I don't think I am really qualified for). I got a callback on one but wasn't able to answer at the time. I left a voicemail but have not gotten another call. I will probably call that person again tomorrow.

Thanks again for the nice words.

Oh, god, I know this feeling. I'm going through the same thing and it sucks so much

Best of luck with your job hunt. I hope you find something as soon as possible :)!

I feel you

I'm getting older and I need a job where I can still take care of my mother and that really narrowed the pool of my opportunities.

I'm sorry and this might not help but this is a completely normal experience and a big reason why job hunting is such a demoralizing process. IME, people don't even have the decency to call you back or send a generic e-mail even if they promise to let you know either way. It's infuriating but so common. I know they're busy and not doing it to be malicious, but it sucks fucking so bad.

Obviously do as much as you can, but also do yourself a favor and take a break and do something that's not job hunting. You need time to recuperate and care for yourself so that it doesn't wear you down.

Thanks. :) Yeah, I wish they would make it customary to send an email or call saying you didn't get the job. Though, I could do without a letter with fancy heading. :P That was a bit overkill.

I've been there, and it made me appreciate how much good luck is involved, because even if you get hired for your qualifications, you still had to have lucky timing for the right job to open up and for you to find out and apply and to be the applicant they want. No matter how awesome you are, it can still take a long time to hit that lucky break.
