You know, I'm not actually sure. I would guess that at least one of my law professors must have. But the only one I know much about their past was my criminal law prof who worked with the Innocence Project, so more like interacted with famous non-killers.

No, but I always found it really weird that Ann Rule was friends with Ted Bundy.

And that Anne Perry helped a friend kill her mother when she was 15 (the murder dramatized by Heavenly Creatures). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parker%E2%80%93Hulme_murder_case

I remember finding out about Perry when I shelved a true crime book, saw her name on the back, and assumed she was a contributer to the anthology or something. Well, in a way, since she was one of several murderers mentioned in the book. Now I’m always a tiny bit creeped out when someone checks out a bunch of her books.

Yeah, I kind of assume most people don't know. It only came out years later and it wasn't as publicized as I thought it should have been. Technically, she paid her debt to society, but 5 years for bludgeoning a woman to death?

Woah. I had no idea that was Anne Perry!

Yeah, pretty bizarre, isn't it?

Not famous, but I went to grade school with a kid who at age 22 wound up killing his mother's boyfriend and is currently serving a life sentence for it.

Not famous, but a guy I sort of knew in high school (my best friend's boyfriend's friend) was involved in a murder a few years after graduation (I never bothered to find out what his role was exactly - I don't know if he pulled the trigger or was just there). The murder was big news in my parent's neighborhood and I made the mistake of mentioning, "Yeah, I knew one of those guys in high school." My mom found this utterly shocking and would not shut up about it, and for years afterward whenever we passed the restaurant the victim's family owned, she would go off about "I can't believe you knew one of them!" As if she knows for a fact no one she ever went to high school with ever murdered anyone. Her high school was bigger than mine and she certainly couldn't keep track of everyone. Chances are, she knew a murderer/accessory to murder, too.

Not serial killer famous, but dealt with a number of people who ended up getting sent down for murders that made national press.
kamino_neko: Tedd from El Goonish Shive. Drawn by Dan Shive, coloured by Kamino Neko. (Default)

One of my friends was an acquaintance of Bernie Tied. Been a long time since he told the story, so I don't remember the details (they weren't friends, but knew each other by name).

A friend of mine and her classmates had to interview a cannibal (forgot his name) for her psychology class. She said talking to the guy was like talking to someone you'd find on the street. The only difference is that he was in jail for having eaten someone, of course.

My mom lived a town over from Ed Gien's farm. She was too young to remember exactly what happened, but apparently they had jump rope rhymes and song parodies about him.
