That's what you get when you take a comic plot that relies heavily on the conflict between masses of potentially dangerous mutants running around unsupervised vs. personal rights of those mutants to be treated like everyone else and take out all the mutants. I think Tony is wrong in the comics as well but his reasoning much less dumb and contrived there.

Yeah but despite being "less" wrong, the Iron Man in the comics is much less likable than in the film. Like, he comes off as a real fascist dick in Marvel's Civil War. In the comics, the black site prison that they send people to is HIS OWN rather than a government thing he just happens to find out about like in the movie. So I think making the issue of the conflict more personal and less ideological was absolutely the right call on the filmmakers' part. RDJ's Tony, for all my problems with him, is a much more sympathetic character than his comic counterpart.

Oh I didn't say he was less wrong in the comics, but his reasons make more sense than the silliness they pulled in the movie. He's a huge asshole about the whole issue in the comics though, no doubt about it.
