Not even joking, when I was a kid I wanted to go to school for cryptozoology. I didn't realize that wasn't a real thing you could do.

When I was a kid, I thought if I ever won the lottery, I would fund a Bigfoot hunt...or hunt for pirate treasure, depending on my mood!

Hah, I wanted to work for an organisation like Torchwood (since it is probably the best equivalent I can think of - X agency in X-Files was too government connected. I liked the PSI one from PSI Factor as well but never could re-watch this show. German one, a bit like X-Men at first). There is European Nautilus but it deals with UFOs and not really a job, job. Then I grown up and realised it is not as fun to deal with that 24/7. My initial reason was to solve the case of a village my family is from but I cannot bring myself to spend a night there ever again. There is a Catholic exorcist school though! But yeah - you need to be a priest of cleric for it (yes, it is only one in the world and it is under Vatican. In case you wondered - every Catholic jurisdiction needs an exorcist and yep, it usually is just prayers for moody ghosts or therapy for the living. Also 'demons' are not real. And a descriptor for 'not human or a human ghost' hence not evil and those who 'exorcise' them are scammers or abusers).

Too much TMI.

Interesting that cryptozoology has really died off as a thing since the invention of the cellphone camera :^)

It...hasn't, though? There are at least three current popular tv shows about Bigfoot alone. Books, conventions...and just look on YouTube for videos and you'll find hundreds if not thousands.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-23 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
That's not actually true

(Anonymous) 2017-11-23 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, people have a way to incorporate technology to feed their delusion.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-23 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Died off? It's bigger than ever. It's a running joke that cable channels like the History Channel and Animal Planet do dumb Bigfoot shows like OP mentions instead of legitimate documentaries. The reason why they do it is because of ratings and popularity.

LOL! I'm all in favor of laying down a skepticism sick burn, but boy did you goof. ;)

I thought you were stupid before with how you blindly defend police brutality despite proof right in your face, but this is a new level of "completely without a functional brain."

(Anonymous) 2017-11-23 09:11 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, people still mistake animals with mange, or partially decomposed, for monsters all the time.

I'm not sure if I believe in Bigfoot and the like just because of how much of their habitats (forests of western America) have been cut down and no sightings, BUT I absolutely believe in the stuff that lives in water. Especially all the Weird Shit in the deep ocean not just the lake monsters.

Well OP, I am with you on this just more into theoretical physics as how humans reincarnate and what is in between. Or how some become ghosts without any reason whatsoever. Or how some can properly interact (like that dude who kept making coffee every day after death or rather - wrecking the whole kitchen each morning since ghosts cannot drink coffee) but still cannot be captured on photo (yup, tried that - ghost in question are dead family members who just stay around and interact with whole extended family [about 100 people or so] but none of us ever got anything. Plus we are not special snowflakes at all as that is absurdly common issue). I do suspect that as far as cryptozoology goes ... some species just go extinct or are very elusive ... OR are documented by other culture just under different name.

I learnt a month ago that 'Grizzly Bears' are ordinary black and brown bears and not some isolated Alaskan bear sub-species that is aggresive towards all. It is a bit scary as my hometown has lots of same bears (as in it was researched DNA wise and said place is northern Poland) but we just pat them on the back.

I dunno. I saw the jitter-corrected film of Bigfoot (that this photo is taken from) and once you see it without the jitter, it's patently obvious that it's just a guy in a suit. So hokey.

With improvements in technology and imaging, it seems like the mystery is going out of the world.

I'm team Leave Him Alone if he's real. It's been decades, people. If he wanted human contact, we'd have met him!
