Thanksgiving!

(Anonymous) 2017-11-23 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
For those of you celebrating tomorrow, what is your family and/or friends making? Are you looking forward to the political discussions? Ready to pass out after eating a ton of turkey?

We had our Thanksgiving celebration early because everyone else is going to be out of town. I will be staying home, reading and watching TV and just hanging out. I got pumpkin pie for dessert, but other than that I'm not gonna be eating anything Thanksgiving-y, just regular food.

I'm hoping #metoo doesn't come up because I'm tired of a month of low-level panic attacks, and don't really have a filter right now.

We will be making a whole turkey. I think my sister's boyfriend is the only one who enjoys dark meat so he will be eating them turkey legs. I am making bread rolls. We are also having stuffing, homemade macaroni and cheese, sweet potato casserole, and mashed potatoes. For dessert we are having this pumpkin pecan...cake thing and cheesecake.

I just really hope my mom and aunt can keep the politics talk to a minimum. ;_;

My family bought one of those pre-made grocery store things, since no one wanted to cook at all. So it'll be pretty laid back all around - just hanging with the immediate family. Lots of good food. Really looking forward to it. I *think* we're going to avoid political talk - I don't think anyone's going to want to start shit.

Working for a 4 hour shift that's probably gonna be hectic as fuck then going home and enjoying the early close by chilling and working on artsy stuff and bits of a few art projects I'm beyond overdue on. And probably waiting til almost midnight for one on one time with my bf <3.

I already had my thanksgiving meal on sunday with work. Otherwise I'd be a lot more jealous of all these customers having big fancy feasts.

We always have a potluck Thanksgiving dinner, so I'll be making the mashed potatoes and gravy andthe green bean casserole. Everybody comes over to our house and, while I love them, it's kind of a pain because my family's huge and loud, so I tend to hang out in my room once I'm done cooking and watch Netflix with my cousins until it's time to eat.

Going to be doing turkey and dressing and sides with the immediate family. Extended family hates my queer liberal guts, so my immediate (also liberal, not so much queer) family told them all to fuck off.

So it's a tiny gathering, but generally peaceful. The main topics will probably be Star Wars and video games. Brother in law will drag out his monologue about how the EU was vastly superior. I may bring my porg toy to scream at him during the highlights. Dad will do most of the cooking, husband and I will handle the dressing and pies. Sister hopefully won't be too much of a drunken asshole. I'm looking forward to it.

Just me and my parents, so no political discussions. Having the usual: turkey, stuffing, green beans, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, jello salad, pecan pie, peach pie. I've got some sort of flu/cold thing, so I've been passed out most of today already. I expect I sleep most of tomorrow too. I feel bad that I haven't been able to be more help.

For the first time since I went off to college 20 years ago, I do not have to travel to see family on Thanksgiving - they are coming to see me! We are going to a special Thanksgiving dinner at a restaurant, so no cooking or cleanup, either!

I thought I’d be spending the first Thanksgiving since my mom died cooking my favorite Thanksgiving sides for myself and poking around in the garden, maybe read a book. Then my aunt called to say her brothers and their wives and kids were heading up to visit one of the wives’ parents, and would I mind making stuffing and sweet potatoes for just my aunt, my uncle, and maybe one or two of their friends. Today at work my aunt texted me that her brothers and their families were staying in town after all... I went from cooking for maybe four people to having to cook for 12+. Guess I’ll be buying more sweet potatoes tonight.

Well I'm not American and not doing Thanksgiving, but my hampers came today and I already have a packet of savoury pastries and a serving of seafood in the oven and have filled up my M&Ms dispenser. There's also a pack of teriyaki lamb in the fridge to defrost for tomorrow or Saturday, whenever it's ready, and lamb chops in the fridge-freezer for ideas in the near future.

My gf's parents are traveling to spend Thanksgiving with some other relatives, so qt3.14 and me are going to spend the day together. It's just going to be a chill thing.

But ugh I'm super nervous I feel like I'm breaking some sort of relationship rule, like the rules say this is too soon for holidays together. idk that probably doesn't make sense

It's just me and hubs tomorrow, and I'm cooking so it'll be so easy, yay! We'll start with appetizers and champagne (shrimp toasts and those little crispy egg rolls), then I'm doing a turkey breast, dressing, gravy, cranberry sauce (whole berry kind), and sauteed Brussels sprouts. For dessert there's pumpkin pie (from the grocery store, hubs likes it but idt it's very good). I'm just going to drink, cook, eat, and nap all day. Maybe go for a walk in the afternoon, the leaves in the park are pretty rn.

All my friends are going out of town or have other plans and my parents live 2000 miles away so I'm going to a restaurant. :)

Turkey, nope, and yes, but only while watching football.
