A customer coming to me with a complaint about a coworker "not understanding" what she wanted and trying to ask me the same thing, only to get the same answer. The cookie cakes on the display ARE fresh, and ready to be decorated and there's no need to bake and prepare a NEW one when the ones out are just fine.

I really hated feeling put between a customer and a coworker. It was like a kid going to the other parent when they didn't like the original answer.

it got cleared up , but still.

Ugh. I work in retail so I feel your pain. "Well, she said you don't have any more in stock, but can you check for me?" Dude, the answer's still no. No one's playing favourites here.

I will admit the bakery boss has a bit of a thick accent (Italian.. I think) but she seemed to be explaining things just fine and has no problem understanding what customers want.

It just seemed like a case of "I don't like what she's telling me"

That attitude drives me nuts. Your parent analogy is right on the money. It's like they think there's some sort of good cop/bad cop thing going on.

I've had times where a customer would come to me because they didn't like the answer they got from my *boss.* Granted, I don't think they realized they had already been talking to the manager, but it was funny that they thought they could get a different result from me. At least, I hope they didn't know they had already spoken with the manager. Asking me on the off-chance I had more authority is not a dick move like intentionally go after a lowly store clerk in hopes I could be intimidated into something would be.
