oh for fuck's sake, Quentin, I really like your movies but that was a fucking dumb thing to say. the only time anybody who worked in a video store tried to talk me into renting something it was Three Men and A Baby, which I'd rather remove my own organs with a dirty fork than watch.

LOL, I can understand the nostalgia for a time when we kind of valued whatever media we could get and tried harder to appreciate whatever we paid for, but come on. I'm plenty "invested" in browsing through streaming options (and in how much the netflix interface sucks, but that's a separate problem).

But... can't you just stop a video or DVD the same way you can stop a streamed video?

As a Netflix viewer their content is kind of sucking hard lately.

I've never used Netflix, but I definitely had a different experience renting movies on VHS. I was always very choosy about what I rented *because* I was spending money on the rental (and riding my bike all the way to the video store). I wasn't going to spend my precious allowance on movies I just grabbed on a whim. I've also returned movies I started but didn't finish because I didn't like them. It didn't happen often, and the only example I can remember was The Mosquito Coast, which I'd actually checked out from the library rather than rented, but still. Also, rental tapes (and DVDs) weren't always in the best of shape and there were a couple of times I couldn't finish something because it stopped playing part way through and was too damaged to be playable after that. Finally, in my experience, video store clerks were zero help when it came to recommending movies for a ten year-old who didn't like anyrthing scary, gorey, or too violent.

Meanwhile, I will watch pretty much whatever TCM puts in front of me, and now that I get free HBO channels for some reason (I think my cable company is trying to keep from loosing subscribers) I watch even more random movies I wouldn't have otherwise seen. I've learned not to flip to the HBO channels late in the evening, since I will probably end up staying up too late on a work night watching a movie even though I could have DVRed it for later.

People who seem to think that the solution to the homelessness issue in my community is for them to go be homeless somewhere else.

1000% In one of my internships, I was dealing with a lot of this. Criminalization of homelessness is such an issue. People need to live. Making it a crime to do basic things everyone needs to do to live is morally reprehensible.

No issue with homelessness. People need help.

Issue with those who literally refuse all help and sit around in parks shooting up and assaulting people. Issue with those who steal bikes to hide in their tents like they've done nothing wrong and just happened to legally come across four or five of them to take with them. Issue with those that form shantytowns out of tents under highway overpasses and literally fucking traffic teenage girls out of them. Issue with literally over a billion dollars of taxpayer money being filtered through feel-good band-aids over the gigantic gushing wound of the base problems.

The bible thumper who firmly planted himself outside our shop doors a few days ago. I'm Athiest, always have been, but I'll leave you to your beliefs if you leave me to mine. When you start accosting people in the street, making them recite prayers with you, telling them that you've just absolved them of all their sins and then asking them for their contact details, I start having a problem.

Also an atheist, and I agree with all of this. When people try to make their religion my business in some way, that's when we have a problem.

A customer coming to me with a complaint about a coworker "not understanding" what she wanted and trying to ask me the same thing, only to get the same answer. The cookie cakes on the display ARE fresh, and ready to be decorated and there's no need to bake and prepare a NEW one when the ones out are just fine.

I really hated feeling put between a customer and a coworker. It was like a kid going to the other parent when they didn't like the original answer.

Ugh. I work in retail so I feel your pain. "Well, she said you don't have any more in stock, but can you check for me?" Dude, the answer's still no. No one's playing favourites here.

I've had times where a customer would come to me because they didn't like the answer they got from my *boss.* Granted, I don't think they realized they had already been talking to the manager, but it was funny that they thought they could get a different result from me. At least, I hope they didn't know they had already spoken with the manager. Asking me on the off-chance I had more authority is not a dick move like intentionally go after a lowly store clerk in hopes I could be intimidated into something would be.

The Lamar Ball/Donald Trump 'feud' Considering everything else Trump has done, I can really only just roll my eyes at what is essentially a pissing contest between two grown men.

I was wondering why this one massively popular RPF fic was so wildly OOC...and then the author said on their tumblr that they never watch behind the scenes vids or variety show appearances or interviews. They get everything from MVs, stages, Wikipedia, and *other fanfic*.

PARTICULARLY egregious is their portrayal of their supposedly favorite person, who is tough and 'swaggy' on stage but a total sqishy-hearted dork in real life. Siiiigh.

My dad disliking that I applied for a job with Southern Poverty Law Center because he doesn't like that they put homophobic organizations (or in his words groups that "defend traditional marriage," which, you aren't planning on selling me for a flock of goats, are you, so fuck that) as hate groups.

Ooh good luck, I hope you get the job.

The "let's cut off all men's penises" attitudes in the sex harassment secret threads.

And the idea that if you do one bad thing in your past, you should be shunned and shit on forever and ever, regardless of how bad it was, and how you handled it.

I work at a grocery store. I worked Thanksgiving. I had a customer who whined and complained the whole time I was ringing her up. I ended with "I hope your day goes better" when I handed her the receipt, and she said, "It won't. I have to watch my daughter because my mother is working on Thanksgiving. How disrespectful is that?" Uh, you do realize you are talking to someone who has to work on Thanksgiving for people like you, right? And she is your daughter and you will be home, so why wouldn't you watch her?

Pretty much everything. But the biggest recently was this one person going ON AND ON about how Blizzard us racist because the HotS!Alexstrasza doesn't look like the low a fuck poly version from World of Warcraft.

Especially since she's a FUCKING DRAGON who can change her out humanoid appearance at fucking will.
