I work at a grocery store. I worked Thanksgiving. I had a customer who whined and complained the whole time I was ringing her up. I ended with "I hope your day goes better" when I handed her the receipt, and she said, "It won't. I have to watch my daughter because my mother is working on Thanksgiving. How disrespectful is that?" Uh, you do realize you are talking to someone who has to work on Thanksgiving for people like you, right? And she is your daughter and you will be home, so why wouldn't you watch her?

Whaaaat? It's disrespectful to her that her mother can't watch HER daughter because she has to work? People are crazy.

I couldn't figure out if she meant it was disrespectful that her mother wouldn't watch her daughter or that her mother's work was making her work on Thanksgiving. But I sure was not going to ask for clarification! I kept trying to smile and nod and disengage so I could move to the next customer.
