What fashion or makeup things make you cringe when you see other people do them?

(Anonymous) 2017-11-26 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
For me, it's seeing eyebrows drawn on with eyeliner pencil and those nasty jean shorts with the pocket pouches hanging out of the legholes. Both look hella trashy to me.

What about you? What makes you cringe at someone's clothes or makeup?

Really saggy pants. I remember all the guys in middle school wearing pants that sagged almost to their knees and having to walk oddly to keep their pants from falling down. It looked really uncomfortable.

UGI That was all the rage when I was in school too.

This was all the rage when I met my best friend in college. My dad loved him but whenever he came to visit it would always start with "FOR GOD'S SAKE PULL YOUR FUCKING TROUSERS UP"

Seeing anyone's underwear (includes bra straps if it's not accidental).

Forty year old women dressed in the same clothes as their 15 year old daughter (and both managing to look trashy).

Men older than about 20 in flip-flops and cargo shorts and a backwards frigging ball cap anywhere but the beach or a ball game. Way to look like a dumbass. Add a striped t-shirt, and i'm having 'leave it to beaver' flashbacks.

So basically you don't like John Cena? :-P

Over-plucked eyebrows that are either surprised looking crescents or three hairs wide. Clumsy attempts at contouring. Super tight skinny jeans. Guys who wear backwards baseball caps.

brownish-grey lipstick. do you really think looking like you have a piece of liver in your face is a good idea?
this bus driver who had a Hitler hairstyle and mustache (he was Asian)
capri pants
lots of prints that clash in the same outfit

Agreed on the brownish gray lipstick. There is a popular youtuber who I keep seeing pictures of who wears lipstick like this and it is SO fugly.

There's this certain style of women's clothing that's like.... club wear I guess? That's I guess supposed to be edgy and cute but it's really cheap looking. O Mighty is the only brand I know the name of that sells it, but there's others.

Bad brows are another one. Instagram brows are trendy and I've seen like one woman who can pull them off irl and the rest have just looked absolutely awful. Too dark, too light, weirdly shaped, too unnatural, whatever. Every time I see it my inner queen comes roaring to the surface and I just want to be like "OH SWEATY NO THERE'S A REASON IT'S A DRAG LOOK NOT DAY WEAR, HUNTY"

Re: What fashion or makeup things make you cringe when you see other people do them?

(Anonymous) 2017-11-26 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Broaden that out a bit and you've got mine: the fact that Instagram makeup is trending heavily towards drag-inspired looks which look almost uniformly terrible on women.

Not a fan of drawn-on eyebrows, either. Sometimes it's a person who lost their eyebrows to chemo or something, or they always had really thin eyebrows, and that's okay. But otherwise... I think you can pluck to the point they don't grow back, and then you're screwed, but I have to wonder how people start down that road, anyway. I've plucked my eyebrows into a less weird and pointy shape and I remove stray hairs around the edges, but I would never pluck them further, let alone all off.

Another thing that gets me - and this is kind of dumb and just a matter of taste - but I don't like high-heeled footwear where the heel is sort of all in one with the rest of the sole and the gap between the heel and the ball of the foot is completely filled in, so it looks like you're walking on a big wedge. I don't care if heels are wide and chunky, I just want the gap to stay there.

Also, I don't like open-toed boots. Makes no sense. I get these are probably not insulated, but they still look too warm for summer and you're toes would get cold once it got chilly. Plus, they just look weird.

You're describing wedge heels. Agreed here. Except sandals. Wedge sandals can look cute as long as people don't wear socks with them. (ugh!)

(Anonymous) 2017-11-26 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I've never liked wedges either, and I'm someone who loves fashion and is willing to try to see the best in the majority of clothing and accessory types I see out there.

Ugh, open toed boots are the stupidest thing ever.

I had a pair of wedge heel sandals that I wore to death a few summers ago. I thought they were the bomb. Now they just look weird to me. And they're too heavy for dancing.

When hair is dyed an unnatural shade but not in a way that's meant to be obvious, like purple hair would be. I mean, a shade of red or black or platinum blonde that are just clearly not that person's natural color, not because it couldn't be *someone's* natural color, but because it just doesn't fit their coloring, doesn't match their eyebrows, etc. Some people can really pull off going a very different color, but on others it's just really obvious. I feel bad about feeling that way, since I figure it makes them happy, and I certainly don't say anything about it, but I'll sit there wishing they'd gone for dark brown rather than black, or a less vibrant red, or a different shade of blond.

The reason I've been using the same shade of hair dye for the past several years is because it plays really well with my coloring, including my natural hair color. By the time I've got roots, the dye job has faded so that it just looks like I got a lot of sun a few months before. This is especially important because I'm a lazy ass who will go for months and months without dyeing my hair again.

I love cutoffs with visible pockets. Though now that I think of it, I suppose I've only ever loved that look on people with super skinny legs. I don't judge less skinny people who wear the look; I just don't tend to notice at all.

I dislike the look of too-tanned foundation, extremely overdone contour, harsh and pencil thin eyebrows, and poorly done eyeliner - especially winged liner and especially if it's really thick.

Dyed grey/silver hair. There might be people out there who wear it well but I haven't met one yet.

I don't really have a huge issue as long as people are enjoying themselves.

Except this instagram trend of clearly fake, rather painful looking "full" lips.

Actually so much of instabeauty culture these days with heavily...idk, mascara'd? eyes, dull matte...makeup, just looks to be ripping from urban WOC and looking five times less interesting and more manufactured, which, no surprise really.

ripped jeans, very high heels, sport suits when not doing sports

tbh I hate most high heels because poor feet.

It may be because of my own fashion sense but what makes me cringe the most is a fat person who wears clothing that is either so tight it hides nothing of their rolls of fat, or leaves a bare midriff.

Maybe I'm sensitive to those because I try to cover mine to a moderate degree.

Not a damn thing. People having different ideas of what makes them look pretty is part of the beauty of the world. Also, people can't always afford to look a certain way. Some people just wear the same damn pants until they get real baggy and hole-ey wear out, and then they turn them into shorts - because it's new clothes or food and rent, ya know?

Only when it's inappropriate for the occasion (shorts at work, revealing clothing at a funeral). In the wild I only really notice what people wear when it looks good. Most of the things listed in this thread have looked good on someone I've seen on the street, even if I personally am not into them.
