People whining about free speech when someone criticizes them for racism, sexism, homophobia, or whatever.

Yep. I feel like the people who scream the loudest about "MUH FREE SPEECH" are the ones who have the least understanding of what free speech actually is. It just means that the government can't punish or censor you for speaking out against it, that's all. It doesn't mean that other people can't react negatively to what you say, and it definitely doesn't mean that you can say whatever you want without any consequences.

Tell me about it. No one is violating your first amendment rights by disagreeing with your or deciding they don't like you.

One of my former coworkers persists in insisting Resident Chump is a kind, magnanimous, honest man. For added wtf, he’s Latino.

What the hell even is this line of fuckery? But I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I had a coworker whose family is from Iran and loved him. At least she stopped singing praises after the whole travel ban snafu.

Some peoples' power of denial is very, very strong.

Anything that imputes healing powers to essential oils. I get that aromatherapy is a thing and some oils contain chemicals that eg help you feel more relaxed when you inhale the scent, but they don't cure illnesses or actual medical problems of any kind.

Yeah, pretty much. I mean, some have anti-microbial and anti-fungal properties, but 99.99% of the time a tube of neosporin does a way better job with lots less chance of accidental poisoning. Which is how I feel about most alternative medicine. There’s some truth in some stuff, but mostly it’s a way to rip people off that might actually make whatever’s wrong worse.

Add in that a couple of the most prominent essential oil companies are pyramid schemes associated with evangelicals (and wasn’t that a trip, realizing this far-left hippie fringe thing was popular with the “Jesus loves fetuses” crowd), and yeah, not impressed.

But at least it’s not homeopathy. Fuck that bullshit.

I agree. I swear by eucalyptus oil in my bath. But that's entirely for relaxation purposes. It clears my sinuses and just generally makes me feel relaxed. Doesn't mean it has magical healing powers. It is about the same as using a cough drop.

People who describe their behavior as being typical of some astrological sign or another. As if those descriptions aren't so generic they wouldn't apply to bunches of people! It's no different than other pseudosciences like homeopathy.

oh god, this. A FOAF had a GIANT hissy fit because I wouldn't tell her my sign when my friend introduced us. I said if you want to get to know me, get to know me as an individual rather than deciding what I'm like without bothering to ask me anything directly.

That asshole who's, sadly, running the USA. =/ (My 6-year-old, out of the blue, one day called him Donald Dump and I've legit never been prouder to be a parent. He totally came up with the name by himself, that's the best part! lol)

Coldplay.

Commercials that either imply or outright state their customer base stupid.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-29 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
I have zero patience for it and I actually don't really mind a lot of commercials. I just cannot fathom why advertisers would insult the people they want to buy their product.
