What has disappointed you recently?

As serious or silly as you want.

Elfquest: The Final Quest has been continually disappointing me the last three years.

I am a recovered EQ addict, meaning I stopped buying many many moons ago, due to disappointment. I'd find it hard to articulate, because I think the whole property had a lot of potential that just never quite panned out. The original quest worked, and some of the other stuff worked. But by the time the Final Quest rolled around, I'd already been out for quite a while. I try to peek online and read some articles when I can, but haven't jumped back in.

All that to say that I would be interested in hearing what YOUR disappointment is with the story, if you'd care to share.

Wasn't there a period where it devolved into wish-fulfillment soft porn?

I agree with your comment re. the entire property, since the developments in the nineties seems to suggest that they wanted to turn it into something bigger and then they couldn't get the right talent on board. I mean, I personally love the universe enough to really forgive a lot of the wonkiness happening in the nineties run simply because there was the brilliant bits like the Original Quest and Dreamtime. But Final Quest is going back to the core of the Pini creative team, and it's worse than anything produced by the hired crew.

It's the combined effort of frequently cringy artwork and a lot of really questionable storytelling choices. (If you're not spoiler averse, one of the top posts over at my personal journal is a list of WTF-worthy plot developments with reaction gifs) I think "wish fulfillment" is certainly a factor at work about what's going on - the Skywise-Timmain subplot was first hinted at like twenty years ago, I know, but the way it's playing out here just seems like a halfassed way to explain how Cutter and Skywise aren't really going to be apart when the Palace leaves, as if they're afraid of including some degree of bittersweet for the central characters. Seriously, if you follow the official Elfquest facebook page, they've been announcing a number of issues with comments about how "something big happens to some well-loved character" or outright stuff like SOMEBODY DIES IN THIS ISSUE and then the one who bites it is a wolf friend or some minor Go-Back that no-one cares about.

Aside from weird plot developments, a huge problem with Final Quest is that the pacing of the story is just way off. They've introduced way too many subplots they just can't develop enough and all their separate developments leaves me... punch drunk, I guess? Like, when everything is huge and shocking, it stops having an emotional impact at some point. There are also elements that should be simple enough yet are screwed up in the telling. There's the first ever explicitly shown same-sex pair of lifemates! And except for how the choices of characters is... odd, the showing of it just doesn't work at all and it just comes across as if was shoved into the story for SJ points (except given Wendy Pini's history, I'm pretty sure it's wish fulfillment, yeah).

Went to a job interview today. Job on Indeed was advertised as $12.50/hour. Interviewer told me it was $8.50 an hour. WHY YOU GOING TO WASTE MY TIME LIKE THAT? I had to straighten my hair!

Ugh, I hope you called them out on that! That's such bullshit.

Nah, it isn't that guy's fault. He isn't even in charge of the listings. He didn't know I was coming until this morning (his boss from corporate has known since Monday).

Even more so because I had to fill out AN APPLICATION! I already gave you my damn resume (and brought an extra copy). Why do I have to fill out all the same info again??

That sucks! I hope you find something soon.

I once went to a job interview where the ad had failed to mention that it was a live-in position and that the place wasn't open yet.

Oh man, the last place I ever applied to before I started my own company did that same fucking bait and switch. Ad said something like $12/hr + commission and then I show up and it's min wage + commission. And you had to pay a few hundred for your uniforms before you even started work.

I didn't even bother finishing the interview, I found that out and I was just like "yeah, thanks but no thanks, I have shit to do, bye."

Hopefully your interviews tomorrow go better. Good luck!

I hope so too!

One interview is for a job I don't feel qualified for.

The other was for something I don't remember applying for and only vaguely know what it is for. >.>

Aw, I'm sorry. I'm frequently disappointed in myself, so I know the feeling. Anyway, plug in your phone (or get a new battery), and feel better tomorrow!

Myself. I had plans today to get a lot done. But I slept about 2 hours last night, have felt nauseous all day, and am hormonal. I made it through my Spanish Class, but that's it. And I can't even have the drink I want on account of still feeling sick.

It’s not that i’m sexist, I just remember a time, when I held the door open for a girl, and she began to scream and cry. “You oppressive piece of shit,” she began to say, and when I tried to calm her, she kicked my way. I used self defense, and moments later she was on the ground. The cops were called, and I’m writing this from prison now. It’s not that I hate women, just a selective few, the ones who abuse the system, and many of them do.

This sounds like me, every day. Every day I have high hopes that I will be more productive than I am. But, inevitably, I don't quite hit the mark. Oh well! Rest, rinse and repeat.

Hope you feel better tomorrow!

Ruthanna Emrys's, Winter Tide. I kind of liked her earlier novella and the premise of deep ones are not evil, just misunderstood, because Lovecraft was an asshole is up my alley. But this one just feels like it should have been a novella.

Some nail polish strips I ordered that were described as being a "stormy blue shade". They were basically battleship gray. I wore them and it was okay, looked nice with my sterling silver rings, but I took them off after three days because I got tired of them. Wouldn't repurchase.

Recently? Lunch was underwhelming, I guess. There's a knack to sandwiches, and if the ratios are off then everything goes downhill from there.
