There are changes, but I'm enjoying it so far. I guess I've got two good seasons ahead of me!

That... actually seems kind of like a natural fit for The Runaways tbh.

That's probably a controversial opinion, I guess.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-30 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait til it's all out, and then see what the critical and popular consensus is?

(I've not yet read the comics, so the changes (I'm semi-spoiled for a few things in the comics already) seemed mostly okay to me, but with only 4 of 10 eps out who knows?

Brunet there just is not Chase. That throws me.

Wait... the Brunet one is Chase?! And here I was thinking the only thing that would throw me, cast wise, was that Gert was way too thin!

(Anonymous) 2017-12-01 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
His hair looks a lot darker in that picture than I recall from the show.

This as well as what they did to Gert. That's not chase at all. B/

(Anonymous) 2017-12-01 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
oh, so I'm wrong to adore show!Gert? But I adore show!Gert!

(Anonymous) 2017-12-01 01:26 pm (UTC)(link)
She's supposed be a lot chubbier than she is. In some of the comics, she close to being fat, but still awesome.

Show!Gert ain't none of that (physically anyway. I have no idea if they did her personality right).

(Anonymous) 2017-12-01 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
She's more zaftig than is usually seen for a female main character.

What does that even mean?

Look, I don't give two flying fucks if you like show!Gert or not. Have at and good for you.

I just hate the fact that they chickened out and made her skinny as fuck.

I'm just irked about Molly. I mean, I know it would be logistically harder, but she's supposed to be what...10? And changing her last name? I mean sure, they got a hispanic actress for her, but what's wrong with "Hayes"?

(Anonymous) 2017-12-01 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Well, she's old enough to be possibly starting her period in the comic, so she could be 10, but a well-developed 10. She still has the same attitude and I don't mind her last name being changes.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-01 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
What's in a name?

[personal profile] kallanda_lee 2017-12-01 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that argument goes both ways. If it's unimportant, why change it? To me it's basically the makers' saying "we"re making this a different character" and that sucks if it's a character you liked in the comics

(Anonymous) 2017-12-01 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
Presumably, they changed it because of the ethnicity of the actor they cast.

So far I'm really enjoying it. I've read the first three TPBs, and know what happens later on.

The only thing is, yeah, Chase is pretty wrong, but I'm surprised how much I'm ok with Molly.

It's different, but pretty faithful, all things considered.

What is this?

(Anonymous) 2017-12-01 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Runaways

(Anonymous) 2017-12-01 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
Marvel's Runaways, based on the comics by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona. The little franchise that Marvel jerks around a lot.

The comic starts pretty grim, gets a little better for a bit. Some of the characters became fan favourites. It's from long enough ago to be from before Marvel decided to murder its teen heroes in a Battle Royale rip-off, but I think most of this cast avoided dying in that.

I just can't with short-haired Chase. Who thought that fit?

Huh. Too bad!

I want to watch it. But making Gert as skinny as she is just really pissed me off something fierce. I can't abide that at all.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-01 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
I did the same thing with Daredevil. Super invested in the comics but the Batfleck Daredevil film was so unbearably bad, I had no confidence in the Netflix version when it was announced. Even less confidence when they cast Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock because he's not a tall, muscular ginger with a scary face. I basically noped right out of it.

And then a couple of weeks after the release it was blowing up everywhere and I started to want to trust everybody. My friends were telling me it was better than great and that Charlie was a revelation. I was anxious as hell but I watched it. I devoured it. And they were right, Charlie is a revelation. Wait a little while, read some reviews, try not to be anxious but go slow. Try one episode. If it starts going sideways, you can always stop, right?
