You're doing the good thing, OP, tossing out little encouragements and such, but honestly, it's possible that since Jan 2017 the escapism of reading and writing fanfic seems much too painfully head in the sand to a lot of people.
If we survive until 2020 I expect a resurgence.

Nope, I don't. I think it's ridiculous and self-defeating.
And idgaf that you do, 'cause i don't.
*shrug*

Not ayrt, and I don't feel the way they do, but your responses have been needlessly hostile and a bit rude.

Just replying in kind.

Not OP, but, man, I've been looking for MORE ways to escape since then. I have severe anxiety and ptsd (from a natural disaster that repeated itself this year many times over) and my reading in general has gone through the roof (as well as anything that will force me to forget for a bit-social activities, extreme yoga sessions, painting, hiking in no service areas, rock climbing, swimming by myself in really dangerous waters... Basically I'm at the point of doing extreme escapism or extremely dangerous things to numb myself, so if these unfinished fics could finish, maybe I won't die in the desert or something.

oh, PLEASE

Fuck you, little bitch. Oh, please, what? You're a fucking piece of shit.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-01 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
Well Trump's going to kill us all anyway, so there's really no use in reading anything if nothing's ever ever going to get finished.

Look, he's an orange disaster on two legs, but this country has survived incredibly bad presidents before. His presidency will continue to suck all kinds of balls, but it's not the Armageddon.

I'd argue that reading and writing fanfic as a form of escapism is the opposite to a lot of people. Head in the sand? Newsflash, OP, you can write and read fanfic and still be aware of current events.

In fact, in the world of Donald Trump, Brexit, terrible mass shootings in the USA, terrorism and so on people need a little 'escape', you know? We can't spend 24/7 on what's happening in the world and around us or we'd all go crazy. It's healthy to have an outlet out. For fanfic writers, that's the outlet.
