Aren't they doing original stories in Tolkein's world set between The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings? That's what I last heard, rather than a straight adaptation.

I think so. My best guess is something based on Aragorn's adventures prior to the main events of LOTR. So something that wasn't actually shown in the books.

(I guess I could live with that... it would kinda be like a televised fanfic. But I'd still prefer it to be done well, and I'm not sure that will happen with the stuff about making it like GOT)
