Re: What are some phrases that put you on edge?

When someone calls me on the phone and the first thing they say after hello is "Are you busy right now?" I expect something long or serious if they need to ask me that before settling into a phone conversation. And it's ridiculous of me to always worry that, because usually they're just being polite to let me know they're aware that they could have been interrupting something I was doing.

fuck, yeah. That always makes me uneasy, like what are you going to tell me? something bad? what are you going to ask of me? unload on me? tell me already!

Huh, that's interesting. In my case, it's usually the first thing I ask, and it's also usually the first thing people ask me. Because I just don't really like talking on the phone much, and I hate talking on the phone while I'm doing something else, so my friends all know to ask if I'm busy, because I often am, and that means it's not a good time to chat with me. And I guess it's the first thing I ask because in my mind - perhaps mistakenly - other people hate multitasking during a phone call as much as I do, so I should ask right away if they're busy, to be considerate.
